Responsibilities and Requirements

Our client seeks an experienced Outsourcing Art Manager with considerable knowledge of the asset creation process and superior handling of external art teams. You will be the crucial link between the studio’s Art team and its vast network of external vendors, ensuring all delivered assets conform with the team’s vision, deadlines, and standards.

Your asset management and tracking proficiency is imperative for orchestrating, overseeing, and delivering superior art assets that enhance our gaming endeavours. This position necessitates a distinctive amalgamation of exemplary artistic proficiency, profound technical acumen, outstanding organizational aptitude, and an abiding enthusiasm for video games.

  • Oversee outsourcing strategies and implement best practices in managing external art and vendor relationships, ensuring clear, consistent communication and alignment with project goals. 
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of outsourced art assets, from initial briefing, through production to final delivery.
  • Implement and oversee asset tracking systems to monitor progress, maintain high-quality standards, and guarantee timely delivery of assets within budget.
  • Collaborate closely with the Art Director and internal teams to understand and communicate project requirements to external partners, ensuring all assets align with technical and artistic specifications.
  • Establish, review and provide constructive feedback on art assets, ensuring they align with the project’s artistic vision and quality standards.
  • Forecast resource needs, manage budgets, and work with the internal team to negotiate contracts with outsourcing partners.
  • Identify potential risks and implement mitigation plans before issues arise.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in asset creation and management, incorporating these insights into workflows.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Game Design, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in art production within the gaming industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial role overseeing outsourced art.
  • Proven track record of managing outsourced assets, with a portfolio showcasing completed projects.
  • Strong understanding of the art creation process, including 3D modelling, texturing, and animation.
  • Deep understanding of art & design fundamentals including composition, colour theory, perspective and lighting. 
  • Proficiency in asset management software and tools.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and project management skills.

Desirable bonus skills include the following:

  • Experience with AAA titles and familiarity with various game genres and styles.
  • A strong network of contacts within the art outsourcing industry.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, aiding communication with international partners.
  • Experience using project management tools such as JIRA, Asana, or Trello.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine or other modern game engines.
