Responsibilities and Requirements

Our client is seeking a seasoned Lead Engine Software Engineer to spearhead our engine development efforts. In this critical role, you will lead a talented team of engineers in enhancing and optimizing the studio’s game engine, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of its ambitious projects.

Your expertise will be crucial in driving innovations and improvements in engine technology, helping us to create visually stunning and technically advanced gaming experiences. This position is ideal for someone who combines deep technical knowledge with leadership skills and a passion for gaming.

  • Lead the development and maintenance of our game engine, ensuring it is robust, efficient, and scalable.
  • Collaborate with other department leads to understand and address the specific needs of their disciplines, ensuring the engine supports all aspects of game development.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and development methodologies to keep the studio’s engine at the cutting edge.
  • Oversee the engine's performance optimization, ensuring the studio’s game meets its targets on all platforms.
  • Grow, mentor and manage a team of engine engineers, fostering an environment of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for engine development and documentation.
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in game engine technology and incorporate relevant innovations into the engine.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in game engine development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role and at least two shipped AAA games
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ and a deep understanding of software architecture and design.
  • Solid foundation in 3D mathematics
  • Proven track record in developing and optimizing game engines, with experience in rendering, physics, animation, streaming and other platform-level systems.
  • Experience with cross-platform development and a thorough understanding of the technical requirements of various gaming platforms.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to grow, inspire and motivate a team.

Desirable bonus skills include the following:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine or equivalent AAA engine at an advanced level.
  • Contributions to the development of proprietary or open-source game engines.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and adept at working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Published research, presentations, or articles in the field of game engine technology.
